In February 2017 we planned a road trip from Chattanooga to Texarkana, TX to visit some friends and of course figured out a way to check a couple of high points off our list on the way.
Mississippi’s high point is located near Iuka, MS … no offense to Mississippians, but Woodall Mountain might just be the least scenic high point we’ve visited so far. It’s really just a short drive up a small hill, which has some pretty forest views, but we didn’t even let the dogs out of the car because of all the litter and broken glass. Apparently the area has some interesting Civil War history so there’s that.

Louisiana’s highest point, Driskell Mountain, is located near Acardia, LA in Bienville Parrish. The hike is 1.8 miles out and back and is a fun and easy walk for all ages and skill levels. The scenery on the trail was really beautiful forest land with lots of pine trees; it doesn’t look like the typical swamps and marshes you associate with Louisiana. Since it was so early in the season nothing was blooming yet, but I read that wildflowers line the trail in the spring which sounds beautiful. Overall, this was a really peaceful and quiet trail with really nice views. If you’re ever near Arcadia, LA I recommend checking it out!
